Make A Fool Of Yourself

Dear readers,

I am certainly making a fool of myself by writing this but I insist on being a fool.

Perhaps I am a version of you which you have already been through.

Or perhaps I am where you want to be in the near future.

It really doesn’t matter — I say:

To be able to say what we mean and mean what we say is a skill we should develop throughout our lives.

/

When we were children, we had minimal to no inhibition.

Do you remember when you were wild and free?

Only come later — as we become taller,

and sunsets grew colder,

that we become timid of our sense of self.

/

The shame, the fear…

Disgust, anxiety, loneliness,

despair, and angst…

They fester.

“These are all just a normal part of being an adult!” —

“Don’t overthink it!” —

With our busy-ness, we assume and carry on.

Our 9 to 5s.

Our steady pay checks.

Our lifestyles.

False stability guards from the changing world.

Killing the inner philosopher,

the dreamer,

the observer of our thoughts and actions.

/

Until one cloudy morning we awoke from our nightmare,

a nightmare of living a life not worth living.

A life of inactivity, predictability, and meaninglessness.

A life of the one who is afraid of being,

afraid to be seen “a certain way”,

afraid of judgment from ourselves and others —

a follower of the negative voices.

We wake to throw off our empty shells,

To embrace the clouds and play the fool.

/

So, if you have that dream —

whatever dream you may have, go forth,

make a fool of yourself,

I say:

“There is no one day without day one!”

Take a step, go for it!

/

Rooting for you, always.
